  1. Hello,

    My friends elderly dad has a problem with his Philips DVDR880 standalone recorder.

    He left it recording a programme and didnt switch it off. This shouldnt normaly be a problem.
    But he came back and not working.

    The problem exactly is this;
    the machine seems to have frozon / crashed.
    the disc will not eject
    the LED display says.. AEO1OSD this is not listed in the manual.
    It will not respond to any button presses.

    When I switch off the machine and turn it on, for a couple of seconds, the LED display shows these characters A638B6E there is a brief whirring inside as if the disc is trying to read, then it stops. and show the 1st LED image.

    I think it may be the disc is just corrupted/ stuck
    Anybody got any more informed ideas ?

    thanks

    Once you get the disc out...the problem will most likely NOT be solved either. Being a Philips 985 owner for over two years....I think I can safely tell you that the machine will need to go back for service.
    Had the machine malfunctioned at power up and NOT during or directly after a recording....the newest Philips firmware MAY have cured the error message problem.
    Most machines (Philips ones anyway) have a small slot under the front of the machine where you can manually eject the disc (or tray). I've read about it somewhere....never had the need to attempt it myself however.

    I believe you can unplug the unit....then plug the unit back in again WHILE pressing the power button on the front of the machine to do a virgin restart....you will need to have the machine re-find all of the TV tuner stations....just like when you first purchased it. That may buy you enough time to eject the disc.
