I want to combine WAV from minidisc with video from miniDV to get around the heavy hand of the AVC on my JVC GR-DV900 camera. I may not always be able to use a clapper board.

    1. Does anyone know of a cheap/freeware program that I can play an AVi or M2v file in with sound from a WAV file and quicky change the audio offset. Nothing I've seen will play sound when you play the video at half or quarter speed, even if the sound was pitch-shifted. Some will show you a waveform but unless you are using a clapper it takes a lot of mucking around to set the offset. I'm currenly using Adobe Audition (I'm a CEP 2.1 owner) and using the Generate Silence function in Detailed editing view and AVI playback in Multitrack view but it's taking a lot of messing around to get offset right.

    2. How can I get CEP/Audition to save as MP2. I'm current using ffmeggui but that's an extra step.

    3. It seems that Audtion can't load M2V, only AVI. Is this correct?

  2. There's a program called "SyncView" - it's in the tools section (or click
on the name in this post).

Media Player Classic is the way to go.

You can interactively adjust the audio offset, and quickly determine the sync in only a minute or two. If you name your wav file the same as your avi, then it will automatically use that as the source.

Once you've determined the sync, just load up your Avi and Wav in VirtualDub, then use the interleave options to set the audio delay, then do direct stream copy of video and audio, and voila, you have perfect in synch avi.

When I tried to run Syncview it only appears mimised on the task bar - I can't open it.

    I'll try MPC. Thanks.

Someone just emailed me about a "minimize" issue in SyncView. I was able to re-create the problem--and implement the necessary fix--but that bug happened only after the software was run (OK), minimized and then closed (while minimized). Do you mean that you installed the software, and then were never able to access the GUI?

I accessed it once. It was so long ago I can't remember if I then minimised it or not.
