I have Premiere 6.5 with Win XP. I have 512 hyper threading and two Serial 120 hard drives and 2.8Ghz.

My problem is that when I drag a clip into the timeline and want to view my timeline the playback is jumpy and there is no audio. If I click and hold on the timeline marker and drag it across the timeline I can hear the audio that way but of course it is jumbled cause I am not dragging it at a consistent speed. Any ideas on why my picture is jumpy and there is no audio when trying to play what is in my timeline? Its not even a matter of rendering it first as I have tried that already.

  2. One possibility I can think of: (If I happen to think of others, I will let you know)

Is your camcorder ON and hooked up to your computer at that time?
And when you choose template (project settings) when you first new a project, did you choose "real-time preview"?

If you do, Premiere will try to output things to your camcorder at its best effort, so the preview on your PC will look jumpy. But if you look at the small LCD on your camcorder, it will be very good.

Make sure when you open up the project, don't choose real-time preview and everything should work fine with your PC , which is way too fast compared to mine (600MHz) and that should be more than enough.

  3. I have the same experience, if I capture in Premiere 6.5 from my Canopus ADVC50, and try and play the captured file in the timeline - 'jumpy' video, and no audio.

If I capture using http://windv.mourek.cz/ and then import the clip into Premiere, it plays fine.

If I add a WinDV captured clip to the timeline, then even the previous Premiere clips play OK, along with the new clip!

Don't pretend to understand why -- so I just capture with WinDV, and import to Premiere to edit.

    Anything for an easier life
