  1. How do i convert .vob files into .mpg? I tried pretty much everything in TMPGEnc and the video had some glitches in it. Is there a simple program that will rewrite the headers for me?

  2. VOB files are DVD compliant MPEG's. They can be demuxed (de-multiplexed) into seperate video and audio files with VOBEdit, DVD Decrypter, TMPGEnc (MPEG Tools) and several other applications. Also, many editing and authoring programs can use VOB files as they are. If you've saved the VOB's to your hard drive, you can simply change the VOB file extension to MPG and that will work OK in some cases.

  3. I tried TMPGEnc and for some reason the video on some of the movies comes out bad. Where ever there is movement there are horizontal lines? Is there a way to fix this or another program i can use?

  4. NTSC interlaced video viewed on a high resolution computer monitor will reveal the "comb effect" during movement that results from the interlacing process (this is probably what you are describing). Computer monitors are progressive scan and aren't designed for playback of interlaced video. Your video will likely look just fine on a regular TV.

  5. How do i de-interlace the movie?

  6. No need to de-interlace unless the file is meant to be played back on a computer only. But, if you want to, load the file in to TMPGEnc and check out the deinterlace filter (preview) in advanced settings. De-interlacing will require re-encoding if you want to save it as a new file.

  7. I tried that but it messed up the whole picture now not just the movement. Now there are little squares all over. How do i fix this? Do i have a wrong setting. In the advance menu i changed the video source type to interlaced and i checked the deinterlace (none).

  8. You have to double click on deinterlace and choose which type you want. Try "double" to see how that might look.

  9. The most user friendly way, in my opinion, is to use Womble Mpeg-VCR. This is a very simple guide to user: http://www.dvdguideuk.dsl.pipex.com/dvdguide/editing1/editing1.htm

Good luck, and no disrespect to the many TMPGEnc users.

  10. That doesnt help me in the deinterlacing problem.

Is there a program that will rip the vob files

  11. DVD Decrypter

    SmartRipper

    DVD Shrink

(...and others) will rip VOB for you

That is true, but it will allow you to easily convert the *.Vob files to
MPEG-2 files. Rip the files to your hard drive with DVD Decryptor, and then convert them with Womble Mpeg-VCR

  13. Actually, Womble can open the VOB's right off the disc. No need to download to hard drive first, unless you want to edit. Even then, it's not really necessary to load them into hard drive first (Womble will just react slower, but still will work right off the DVD).

That is the only reason that I rip the files to the hard drive first.

  15. Main Concept MPEG Encoder can converts VOB to MPEG. This program is very fast and good quality.

Indeed. All you need to do is join the VOBs from a title set & rename the resultant file to have a .mpg extension.

    So if you have:

    VTS_01_1.VOB
    VTS_01_2.VOB
    VTS_01_3.VOB

    VTS_02_1.VOB
    VTS_02_2.VOB
    VTS_02_3.VOB

    you would join VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VOB, VTS_01_3.VOB to make VTS_01.mpg

    and join VTS_02_1.VOB, VTS_02_2.VOB, VTS_02_3.VOB to make VTS_02.mpg

This gives you 2 mpgs with navigation packs in the structure. You can edit as normal and most decent authoring applications will re-use the navigation packs and so they will be processed quicker.

To join files use a file joiner like http://www.peretek.com/sfj.php
    SVCD2DVD v2.5, AVI/MPEG/HDTV/AviSynth/h264->DVD, PAL->NTSC conversion.

  19. I have Pinnacle 8. It is picky about video files. Lots of folks like Vegas and Ulead. You can check them both out for free (trialware).

Rip the files with DECRYPTER in no file splitting with IFO mode.

You're too new to this to be asking so many questions.
You really need to be reading guides first.
All of this is covered in many places.
