  1. Hi, I am trying to backup a dvd and I am having some troubles. I am using dvdshrink to shrink the dvd and using nero to burn. I do not get errors using dvdshrink, but whenever I try to burn, I get a "burn failed, communication error". I am not sure what is going on, any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Added: I have burned a few dvds before this with no troubles at all, is there a protection on this dvd or something? Also, my burner is a hp (came with the computer) and I use memorex dvd+r/rw to burn.

check to see if your dvd burner is set to DMA mode. sometimes in XP the drive will change to PIO mode. check this link on how to set DMA mode in XP: http://www.cdrlabs.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=7625

  3. Try going to HP and see if they have a firmware update for your DVD Burner. I had a similar problem with my plextor drive and the firmware update took care of it.

  4. Hi, it is me again!

I am getting this error once again, it was solved for a while, but now I am getting it again...i have the latest firmware for my burner, so that shouldn't be the problem.

    I have tried these methods:

    1) using dvdshrink 3.1 and burning with nero
    2) using dvd decrypter to decrypt, then dvd shrink to shrink, and nero to burn

Both methods have failed, any other suggestions? Please any help would be appreciated, thank you!

Try using DVD Decrypter to burn the ISO image.

Make sure you're DVD player is set up as Master and not Slave, put it on a separate channel and replace your cabling, also de-activate any program running before burning , antivirus, scanner software etc.

How do you know if it is a master or slave, and how do you correct this? The dvd burner came with my computer already installed, so I really can't do anything about the cabling, and I am not sure how to go about putting it on a separate channel?
