I burn a lot of stuff to DVD-R and I was hoping to speed up the whole process by writing on the discs and then burning. I use a dedicated CD-DVD marker pen and the discs I use are glossy finished. I am pretty sure it wont be an issue, but didn't want to screw my discs and or burner up. Thanks.

    You'll be fine.

The only time you won't want to do it is if you're printing to disc - if the write fails or it's a bad disc you've wasted printer ink. But that's about it.

I use a sharpie to mark my dvd media then burn them. I don't have any problems.

Like budz, I do the same sometimes.
I worry about it when I do so, but hasn't ever seemed to cause a problem.

Cool. Didn't think it would be an issue. Thanks for the responses guys!.

  6. DVD media has a thicker plastic over the dye layer, the ink from a Sharpie won't penetrate it, so you should be fine. (CD media has a thin, barely sprayed-on laquer over the dye layer which is easily damaged by some markers.)

  7. The only way it would be a issue is if the bottom of the disk gets dirty when you sit it down to write on it and the dirt causes a bad burn.
