    hey,
for the last few days toast gives me this message when i try to burn a dvd using the video or copy tab, last time i tried i could still still burn using a mounted disc image.whats it all about?

    THE DRIVE REPORTED AN ERROR
    SENSE KEY=ILLEGAL REQUEST
    SENSE CODE=OX21,OX02
    BUFFER UNDERRUN

if this question has been asked before then please accept my mostest humblestest apologies but i could'nt a solution when i had a root about in the mac forum.

  2. Yep, been posted before.

Do a test burn in Toast to see if it is the media or the drive. (So a "Simulated Burn instead of a real one. Also try burning at a slower speed, or make sure you do not have too many processes running while you burn.

I presume you are using Toast 6. Make sure you've updated to the latest version (6.0.5). Also, in the recorder settings window (which appears when you click the burn button), click the Advanced Tab and put a check mark next to Buffer Underrun Prevention. (Simulation Mode must be unchecked in order to check the Buffer Underrun box).

You also can choose to burn at a slower speed.

  4. on top of all that- check your disk space. If you don't have tons, Toast will give you any number of errors to let you know that you need space. (I was written back finally as I had an error for a while from Roxio (as many of you prob. remember) and they said it is built into the program to keep you from making coasters. ) Give yourself plenty of gigs for dvd writing Good luck!

    thanks all,
i'm using toast 6,i've got 6 gb of disk space,i'm test burning at slow speeds,
i tried simulation and had no problem,
i made a disc copy using a tdk-rw and it burnt fine, tried with a princo and got the error message again, but i've burnt 100+ princo's since start of year and had no problem,so how come now?
    maybe its do with this:
when tray is open i can check buffer underrun prevention, but when i close tray with blank dvd in,buffer underrun prevention is greyed out/unavailable,this is with simulation box unchecked, this did'nt used to happen,do i need to reinstall toast?

If the buffer underrun checkbox is greyed out after inserting DVD media, then you must be using DVD+R or DVD+RW media. The software buffer underrun in Toast only works with -R or -RW media. The buffer underrun with +R and +RW is handled with the drive's hardware, so the software option is greyed out.

The only other possibility is that you haven't updated to Toast 6.0.5.

the only discs i use are princo dvd-r and tdk dvd-rw,could there be any other reason its greyed out?
dont know if its related but another problem is this:
i have toast running and need disc space to burn,so i trash some files and hit record, toast tells me i still dont have enough disc space, even when i have more than enough,i restart mac but still encounter same message but if i choose to ignore message it will burn ok.
i dont have the opportunity to upgrade toast as im working on a small island with very limited internet access.
have i got any other options?would reinstalling sort it out?

The initial release of Toast (6.0.1) had a bug with buffer underrun on certain DVD drives. This was fixed in 6.0.3, which since has been updated to 6.0.5. You need this updated version in order to solve your buffer underrun problem (or you might try burning at 1X speed; I don't remember if you said you've tried that).

Maybe you have a friend who can download the updater and mail it to you on CD.

  10. And how much space is plenty? I had almost 25 gigs open, and got the error over and over, finally after opening up one more (total of almost 27 gigs really) and it worked fine!!! It takes a lot of space to make a dvd, especially if it's a full dvd. Don't ask why that much space is needed, I just know it needed it. - Good luck!
