  1. v0.0.9m Jul 18, 2004
    http://homepage.mac.com/major4/

With this new version you are required to download a new version of the binaries even if you already installed ffmpegX before. The download URL is written in the window which opens when you launch ffmpegX. Only the specified version of the binaries is supported and other versions will not work. There are now 4 external binaries to install: mpeg2enc, mencoder, mplayer, reallibs.

    - Added video encoding to XviD format with ffmpeg engine.
    - Added "fast XviD" quick preset using ffmpeg engine, up to 300% faster than mencoder XviD.
    - Updated XviD to version 1.0.1 (fixing problem of green artefacts on the left side of the screen).
    - Added video encoding to DV format with ffmpeg engine.
    - Added audio encoding to PCM-16 bit (for use with DV video).
    - Added "DV" quick preset to encode to DV video PAL or NTSC. (Always open the source file first, then select the quick preset without changing the settings: don't change the image size and don't use the bitrate calculator to change bitrate when encoding to DV format, as DV implies standardized settings).
    - New stabler and optimized mencoder and mplayer builds including latest libavcodec.
    - Added "Install binaries" choice in the ffmpegX menu to call back the self-installer sheet at any time.
    - ffmpegX no longer installs its components into shared Unix directories /usr/bin or /usr/local/lib. External components are now automatically stored into a private /Library/Application Support/ffmpegX/ directory.
    - External components have been further optimized.
    - Added various improvements to the self-installer. The admin password is now entered in hidden mode.
    - Updated to ffmpeg CVS of July 18, 2004.

Looks very nice. However at the moment the Real-lib site is down or something:

Safari can’t open the page “http://forms.helixcommunity.org/helixdnaclient/index.html?…=DR5/client-1.1.5-DevRel_ma...lients.tar.gz” because it could not connect to the server “forms.helixcommunity.org”.

just a general question regarding registration: just a few weeks ago i downloaded and registered the .09L version; if i wish for the newly available version of ffmpegX to be available in full, do i have to reregister it by paying again (i just paid a couple of weeks ago).

    thanks,

Site seems up, but download lacks the "real-lib" file expected. make sure you just point the FFMpegX installer to the expanded directory for "client-1.1..."

In the installer, for reallibs, I chose the client... folder that I got from the Helix site and it seemed to install fine.

Well, I must be some kind of idiot then. Whenever I try I get the same errors.
    "No such server as forms.helixcommunity.org"
    "No such server as www.helixcommunity.org"

Edit: Hmm the plot thickens.... After googling for HelixCommunities I'm now getting this:

Safari can’t open the page “https://player.helixcommunity.org/?from=forms”.

The error was: “POSIX error: Permission denied” (NSPOSIXErrorDomain:13)

Please choose Report Bug to Apple from the Safari menu, note the error number, and describe what you did before you saw this message.

No, you don't have to reregister it again.

I just tried the link and it seem to work without problems. Please note that you have to agree twice to the license agreement in order to access the download page.

  13. Is something wrong with these new binaries? I get an error every time I try to encode into divx or xvid with deblock and dering options checked. It works fine when I don't have any of the filters checked.

    Code:
    sh: line 1: 3066 Illegal instruction '/Library/Application Support/ffmpegX/mencoder' /Users/thomas/Desktop/movie.avi -oac mp3lame -lameopts cbr:br=128:vol=0 -srate 48000 -aid 1 -ovc lavc -sws 1 -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vbitrate=983:keyint=240:vhq:vqmin=2:vqmax=10 -ofps 25 -vop scale=640:272,pp=0x77 -o /Users/thomas/Desktop/movie2.avi
    Thomas

  14. I'll check it. Thanks for reporting.

  15. I checked with DivX and XviD and it always worked. Try with another file to see if it changes anything, or providte any other detail which could help me reproduce your issue.

  16. I have now tested a bit more. I have tested to encode a VIDEO_TS folder, .VOB file and a .avi file. Every time I check the "Deblock" or "Dering" (or both) Filter, I get an error. If I only use "Deinterlace" it works fine. Something must be wrong with the binaries. Btw, I used the XviD (mencoder) codec. The XviD (ffmpeg) codec doesn't have "Deblock" and "Dering" filters. The "Illegal instruction" number is different every time.

Here I tried on a .VOB file:
    Code:
    sh: line 1: 1116 Illegal instruction '/Library/Application Support/ffmpegX/mencoder' /Users/thomas/Desktop/MOVIE/TITLE01-ANGLE1.VOB -oac mp3lame ..
    Thomas

  17. I don't get that error. Please try to copy/paste the command and enter it in Terminal.app and see what happens.

  18. I have now tried what you suggested, and this is what happened. In unix you can't use spaces when refering to folders. For example if you are going to point to the "mencoder" file inside "Application Support", you need to put it like this: /Library/Application\ Support/mencoder

    Code:
    iMac:~ thomas$ /Library/Application\ Support/ffmpegX/mencoder /Users/thomas/Desktop/SUMMER2004/TITLE01.VOB -oac mp3lame...
    Thomas

  19. Maybe the problem is a permissions problem?

you can also do '/Library/Application Support/ffmpegX/mencoder' like in the original command from the ffmpegx info
