Video Capture Card advice

I own a Hauppauge video capture card, and it was ok for experiment purposes, but now that I think I understand a little more of the proccess of video capture, I want to purchase a better one without having to mortgage my house to do it!
I need advice from you guys, what card is a good one for having a good video capture?

Maybe you can help me out here. I inquired in another thread I started about DV. What exactly is the ain advantage of an A -> D converter such as the Canpus units and others. Is it really that much better than my analog cap card? If it is merely sync issues, I got that licked. There has to be something more....

There are some quality differences and you're also freeing up system resources if you run a FireWire one. Which card have you got?

I too have an analog capture device (ADSTech vs your Happauge) .... and I wanted some better quality. Found out that I could run analog thru camcorder (built in TBC) and then out thru DV (A/V --> DV) (DV in on computer via 1394)

Works awesome.... video capture seems a tad crisper than directly into PC via MPEG Hware encoder.

Was this for me? I bought an Adaptec Fire connect 4300. It was the only one in the BX. A IEEE 1394 card is an IEEE 1394 card right?
