Canopus advc50

I think i decided to buy Canopus advc50 just need a little more information.

1) can u bypass macrovision by changing jumpeer 6 as i have read in some of the posts. if so what is the procedure to that.

2)cansomeone recommend a good but inexpensive firewire card and where to get it.

3) i have a p3 700 that i will use just for these projects what software do u recommend.

As far as Firewire cards, there are very few that 'won't' work. You can check the major online companies like NewEgg, Tiger, etc. I wouldn't pay more than $30US or less than $12US.

For software, you haven't said what you plan to do with the DV files. I use WinDV for transfer to the computer. DVIO and Scenalyzer are also popular.

Virtualdub is a good all around freeware filter/editor. I install the Panasonic DV codec for Virtualdub use.

Encoding, I use TMPGEnc encoder. Mainconcept encoder can also convert to MPEG2 on the fly, if you don't need to edit.

I use TMPGEnc DVD Author to author to DVD format, and burn with it and Nero.

As far as the ADVC-50, I don't know. I use a ADVC-100. You might check the Canopus forum for information about that.

I would definately join and check out the Canopus forums if I were you. I have the ADVC 1394 pci card and have had very good luck with it in the past. But recently I can't get it to work. There is an issues with the ADVC cards and WinXP with SP1. They have some patches and fixes that might work on your machine.

It might work well if you use it with the firewire port. The other device I am looking at it the Datavideo DAC-100. I am going to try that one to see if it does as good as job without all the connection problems.

I am still troubleshooting my problem with the Canopus card and hope to resolve it soon.
