When I use WMP, Winamp or PowerDVD to play back DV files the video quality is not that great. I have the Mainconcept and Panasonic DV codecs and want to try them out to see if I can improve the playback quality. I cannot figure out how to tell the players to use those codecs and not the built in ones. Just installing the codecs isn't good enough. The video players seem to ignore them and use the built in ones (directshow i guess...?). Is there any way to do this?
My setup is Windows 2000 pro, SP4, WMP9 and the latest Direct X.
After installing the latest version of GSpot, it tells me I have 4 codecs capable of playing DV. They are:
1. MainConcept DV Codec 2.0.4
2. DV Video Decoder
3. Ligos DVSD Video Decoder
4. AVI Draw
DirectShow can also play the video as well.
GSpot tells me that the DV Video Decoder is the codec being currently used. How do I tell applications such as WMP to use the MainConcept DV Codec instead?
Thanks

Not sure if this will help you, but direct show DV codecs will be used with AVI DV type 1 files. VFW codecs will be used with AVI DV type 2 files.
I prefer using Panasocnic DV codec and DV type 2 files so to manipulate the video with virtualdub.[/quote]
