  1. How low can you set the bitrate on a svcd before the picture gets noticably blocky? What is the best svcd bitrate setting for VBR? If I were to put exactly 50 mins onto a svcd would it look good or bad? What do most people consider the sweetspot for svcd 20 mins, 40mins, 50 mins?

If the bitrate drops below 2200 then I switch to 2-pass VBR, and I'll go as low as 1800 avg. or so. In order to get more on a disk I'll use 352x480 resolution and go down as low as 1500 avg.

For VBR minimum I use 200, I've had problems on playback if the bitrate gets lower. For max I use 2400 as TMPGEnc will exceed the maximum anyway, and that causes problems too.

50 minutes puts the bitrate about 1900.
