    Short answer: RTFM--https://www.videohelp.com/glossary?D#DVD-Audio

Long answer: It's 5.1 channel, uncompressed (and therefore lossles) audio. Think along the lines of Quadraphonic systems from the 1970's. It's similar to, but of course, incompatible with, super Audio CD (SACD).

I know that SACD discs can have only 2 channels. Be careful when you buy an SACD disk. Make sure it says, "multi-channel SACD". If it does not, then it is a 2-channel (stereo) SACD disk. However, even stereo SACD sounds better than regular stereo CDs.
The main difference between stereo SACD and regular stereo CD is the dynamic range, signal-to-noise ratio and other statistics, many of which are actually noticeable by the human ear.

I am not sure if the same holds true for DVD Audio.

  4. Well the only real info the manual does give is to say that
High Fidelity music discs- Played on this unit in 2 channels
Ok that sorted what use is it if I cant buy anything on DVD Audio, due to never have heard of it before therefor lack of avaliability. And creating DVD Audio if DVD Audio is seemingly better quality that normal music cd's & deff better than MP3?.

Or is the matter that I can record of my Freeview & Sky digi boxes by the radio stations the point of it to playback the audio from that?.

In order to play SACD or DVD Audio you must have a player that can decode them. Some newer-model DVD players will play both. These players are not cheap, like Apex or anything. They usually cost $150-$200 minimum.
I own a Pioneer DV-563A, which will play both.
You can buy DVD Audio disks and SACD disks online and at some brick-and-mortar music stores. I found an SACD disk of Santana "Abraxas" at the local Fye store in the local shopping mall.
Tower records and Amazon.com carry both. You can find them by searching for "DVD Audio" or "SACD".

  6. Thanks for that ebenton, seems my recorder has the ability to play at least one future audio format anyways. Just a shame they are not really available here in the UK.

Ok this aint directly related but are there any problems or issues that prevents me from putting a load of MP3's onto a dvd & playing them on the E55 rtaher than a CD-R?. I know there is a 99 group & 999 track total limit so as thats not really possable on a cd as such I'm just wandering if putting them onto a DVD-R is ok?.
