  1. Hi all,

    I have the following problem:

I wanted to use the winavi video converter standard edition ver. 5.7 to convert a rm-file into a MPEG2-file.

Then I wanted to use TMPGEnc DVD author ver. 1.5.20.62 to build a DVD with a menu and import the above MPEG. Then create a DVD folder (VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS)

And finally burn this folder with Nero to a DVD.

    This is what happened:

Original size of rm-file: 83,392 kb
Data of original rm-file, as given from AVIcodec:
    Video: 72 MB, 318 Kbps, 15.0 B/s, 320*240 (4:3), RV30 = RealVideo 8
    Audio: 7.31 MB, 32 Kbps, 22050 Hz, 2 Kanäle, 0x0 = RealAudio 8,cook-20

The result were to MPEG-2 files with the following data (also from AVIcodec):

    File1:
    Video : 758 MB, 3982 Kbps, 25.0 B/s, 720*576 (2.21:1), MPG2 = MPEG 2 (SVCD/DVD)
    Audio : 42 MB, 224 Kbps, 44100 Hz, 2 Kanäle, 0x51 = Mpeg-1 audio Layer 2 [0xc0]

    File2:
    Video : 162 MB, 4106 Kbps, 25.0 B/s, 720*576 (2.21:1), MPG2 = MPEG 2 (SVCD/DVD),
    Audio : 8.85 MB, 224 Kbps, 44100 Hz, 2 Kanäle, 0x51 = Mpeg-1 audio Layer 2 [0xc0]

When I now tried to import the MPEG files into TMPGEnc with AddFile it worked ok for the first file. But for the second the ERROR was "This is an illegal video file For DVD-Video you can only use the following video formats: MPEG-1 Video, MPEG-2 Video "

Anyone an idea what the problem is?

    thanks

  2. Actually, both your mpg files are illegal for DVD. Both have 44.1khz audio and you need 48khz audio for DVD compliance. The video specs look fine to me.

  3. Thanks for your reply.

However, still the first file can be imported into TMP without problems.

And I also can without problems include several shorter MPEG-2 files (all having original audio at 44100Hz) and then create a DVD structure.

From what I understood TMP is automatically re-encoding the Audio from the 44100Hz into whatever is needed for DVD. There is a button in the AddClip window of TMP, taking care of this. In my case I cannot unmark it and I will get the message: "Because the input audio format of the clip and he output audio format of the track are not compatible they will be automatically re-encoded" From this message I would conclude that the audio format is not the problem. But what is ?

btw: I cannot include the 2nd file at all into a track. Even if I only want to include the 2nd file seperately, it gives the error.

Therefore I guess it must be something with this 2nd file. But what? Can TMP not handle splitted mpeg files? How to overcome this?

Why is winavi creating 2 mpeg files at all? Is there a size limit?

    thanks

  4. Ok, so its not the audio.

I suggest you take a look at the settings of winavi as to why it is creating 2 output files. I am not familiar with that app so can't help there.

Another option would be to try re-multiplexing the awkward mpg file with TmpGenc plus. Use file->Mpeg tools, simple multiplex tab. OPen your mpg file as the video and audio source and select a new output file. Make sure you set the file type to DVD and click run.

Instead of using TMPGenc try DVD-lab which will prompt you to convert the audio to 48KHz and do it automatically.

You can then create a menu and add chapters.

There are no settings in winavi (at least I don´t find any...)

If I use TMPGEnc-2.521.58.169-Free to import the 2nd file it imports the file ok as audio source but for the video source it gives an error: "can not open or unsupported"

I think it must be a problem of the winavi to create 2 instead of just 1 MPEG-file. Or is there a size limit for MPEG? Then something with the splitting -up is wrong.

    Anyone familiar with winavi?

    thanks

  7. well, still not working...

I guess the problem comes from WINAVI.

I used WINAVI because it can concert rm-files into MPEG or DVD very quickly. I also tried EO-Video but it is very very slow in comparison.

Can anyone suggest another tool for the rm-MPEG conversion?

    thanks
