A friend reformated a Compaq 7410. He did't have the original restore disk of win98. We tried installing win98 and it worked but there were no dirvers for the video or audio.

My question is does Compaq computers only work with the original software or is there a way to get around this issue?

Also, is there a way to get into the bios?

    Any help would be appreciated,

    Chas

entering Bios should be a case of hitting F2 or Delete after turning on the machine. there's a usually some text telling you what to press.

Drivers should all be available on the Compaq website.

  3. Worst case look for a program called AIDA 32 -- excellent program that will interogate your machine and help determine hardware components. Thus if drivers or tools on Compaq site are limited you may be able to source the OEM drivers from the original manufacturer (once your determine who they are )
