  1. I just wanted to know if there is a way to read PAL DVDs on my computer. When I insert the disc into my computer, my drives do not even see the disc. I have a Pioneer DVR-106D DVD Burner and a Liteon DVD-Rom installed on my computer if that helps or even matters. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Watching PAL or NTSC should not be a problem with a PC DVD drive. Get WinDVD or something and see if that helps.

RIP it to your HDD in FILE MODE using DVD Decrypter.

This will create a perfect copy on your HDD but it will be region free.

Then you can use PowerDVD or WinDVD etc. to play back it back from the HDD.

DVD Decrypter can rip any format and region of DVD disc even if your DVD drive is "locked" to a specific region that doesn't match the DVD disc you are trying to RIP.

A computer monitor is perfectly capable of both NTSC and PAL playback whereas most NTSC televisions can only do NTSC.

  5. Thanx for all the suggestions. I don't think that the problem is with the DVD reading program, when I put the disc in the drive, the drive does not see the disc at all. If I try to access it it says please insert disc into whatever drive im using. I want to make an image of it but because of this problem DVD decrypter can't see the disc either. And I know that the disc is not blank because my friend can watch it on his DVD player.

How about your DVD player (standalone)? If your writer can't see that's disc content (hard to imagine) then either the disc is not the brand that is compatible with your player/writer or ... you are not telling the whole story. First it seems (must be) that the disc is a copy already. Second; Lite-on and Pioneer are very different brands so compatibility issue is unlikely (but still remotely possible). You may have ASPI/IDE issues in your pc and this seems to be the most likely reason. Also, the disc has to be finalized to be playable on other devices. Give us more info if you can.

  7. The discs that Im trying to rip are Wrestlemania 1-4 PAL DVDs that I ordered from Amazon.com. I wanted to rip em so that I can convert it over to NTSC and watch it on my stand alone DVD player. I don't really know what other info u r lookin for but just ask and ill do my best to find out for u. Thanx in advance.

If the DVD discs are true factory made discs then any decent DVD-ROM or DVD Burner should be able to read them using DVD Decrypter ... regardless of the region of the DVD discs or the region the DVD drive is set too (and yes even if they do not match).

However you are saying that your DVD drives detect NO DISC!

This is "odd" and usually only happens with defective discs or some home burnt discs. For instance I have an old PIONEER DVD-ROM that has no trouble with factory made discs but some burnt DVD media (especially anything recorded on a Panny stand alone recorder) it pukes on it ... says NO DISC etc.

I have to use my DVD BURNER (an NEC ND-1300A) to read those troublesome DVD discs.

Generally speaking BURNERS seem to read better although they can RIP slower most often compared to DVD-ROM drives.

  9. Thanx for the feedback. Even my DVD Burner detects no disc and Im pretty sure Amazon.com would not sell burnt DVDs. Oh well Ill probably try the discs on some of my other friends' computers, hopefully it works if not then I gotta send em back which would suck. If anyone else has any more suggestions lemme know, if not thanx for all the help.

If your standalone and all other devices seem not to be able to see the disc(s) - is there more then one? - then have the discs replaced by the vendor. If you are sure that your DVD drives work and burn OK then the conclusion is obvious: bad media. But this is assuming that your hardware is 100%.
