I live in Norway. I know you can't play a Norwegian PAL video tape in an American NTSC VCR. I recently bought the Philips DVDR3480 DVD recorder and I'm very happy with the recordings. I just wondered will a disc recorded on it play in an American DVD player or will I have to convert first? Also, I recorded in Extended Play but every other DVD player I've tried the disk in reports it as Super Long Play. It recorded four hours on the disk which is the proper length for EP. Thanks for any answer.

Recorders typically record in the format of the region they support. In your case, this is likely PAL. The US uses NTSC. But it will depend on the DVD player of the person to whom you send the disc. Some players can play both NTSC and PAL.
