The reason why I ask is that I am getting these very odd artifacts (something like you'd see if your video card was way too overclocked in games) when I convert one video file to another (i.e. huffy to divx or xvid, quicktime to vob, etc.). I re-installed windows because it was really bugging me but the problem still persists. I think it might be my Radeon 9800 PRO (overclocked a little but games play visually flawless, and I underclocked the damn thing just to see if that would remedy the situation, but it didn't). Anyone experience anything like this? Very frustrating

It usually means your resolution is too large for your bit rate. Try reducing the resolution or increasing the bit rate.

I don't think 320x480 is too high for huffy to divx... lemmy see if I can make a sample vid file to show you guys.

Your video card does not affect your conversion, it only affects what you see on your monitor.

Then I am in a tough spot... I wonder what the hell could be the problem? Here's a small 17 second clip off one of my VHS captures converted to divx. Anyone see anything like this before?

Well, without the actual artifacts, that's the way it's supposed to look with that kind of compression. Anyway, both of my drives are perfectly defragged. This sucks...

Oh, I guess I should mention that converting from huffy to MPEG1&2 works perfectly.
