  1. Hi guys... was puzzled by a question asked by a friend recently and decided to seek help from experts here instead haha

Supposedly, he has 2 different file types of the same filesize. One supposedly an *.avi and the other of mpeg4 compression (*.mp4) .

Which one would be of a better quality if they are of the same filesize. Or perhaps, which filetype would you guys prefer.

    Thanks alot =))

.avi is a container, not a compression type. You can use countless different compression codecs within the avi container, and every codec has different quality compression ratios, as well as various different advantages and disadvantages. There's really no way to answer your question. Your avi and your mp4 file literally could be the exact same file just stored in different containers.

If you are still interested in getting some information about this specific avi file compared to your mpeg4 file, then you need to see which codec was used for compression on your avi file. You can load your avi into VirtualDub and hit file/file information to see this. If that doesn't work gspot will.
