Hi
First time so be gentle.
Used Virtualdub to capture a VHS tape.
Then TMPGEnc 3.0, TMPGEnc Author and Nero to make it into a DVD.
The end result is good except for one thing. The finished picture does not fully fit the screen, i have large black borders top and bottom of the scrren with the picture between them.
Want, where (which program) have i made a mistake in?
Thanks in advance

Since you live in the UK, you want the resolution for a PAL DVD which is 720x576. Try using this resolution to capture in VirtualDub and don't forget to set TMPGEnc in 4:3 format and not 16:9.

Hi Thanks again.
The problem i got for some reason is,
When I go into virtualdub and set it up to capture, on the "Set Custom Video Format" the only setting that it allows is 352 x 288. Everytime i try say 720 x 576 it says unsupported video format. Is this because i'm using a not so great capture card Pinnacle Rave or what.
Please help i'm getting depressed! -
352x288 is actually a much better resolution to capture VHS.

Indeed, it's not so often your capture card can handle 720x576 resolutions, but in order to create a DVD you need 720x576. Magnifying will result in quality loss but it's the only way to go. The thing is, CCE is buggy when it comes to resizing and I haven't tried TMPGEnc (too slow for my liking). If I were you, I'd capture in the higher possible resolutin and use AVISynth to create a script for CCE, so that I can resize my clip and convert it into MPEG2, DVD video compliant.
The other think you can do, is capture directly into MPEG2. with a programe like Pinnacle's Studio, or ULEAD's DVD Workshop. You can find free trials for both those programs I think (I'm sure about DVD Workshop) and see if you like them. -
Ok.
So it's normal only to have 352x288 as a capturing option? Thats good i thought it was my card.
So my problem really lays with TMPGEnc. Once I have done what TimmeyChuck said in a previous post, setting it to widescreen. The finished result should fill the screen thus losing the black borders?
Im i correct? -
