I am considering an e55 or e85 Panasonic DVD-Ram recorder. I use a Direct TV Hughes E-2 Gold sat receiver. Can I somhow slave the on/off record function of either of these recorders to the sat receiver so I can continue to just use the receiver's timer and program guide to set up recording? I currently use a JVC VHS recorder model HRS3500U that has a cool feature called Record Link mode that when activated allows the recorder to wake up in record mode when it sees the video input go hot,as it would when the sat receiver timer turns itself on,and go back to sleep when receiver turns off and video input is ended. I doubt if there is any such mode (pretty slick I thought) on the Panasonic, but the Hughs also has a recorder control funtion output connector I could utilize. Can the Panasonic utilize this? I thought I saw a similer connector plug on the back of the E85,but it is labeled G-Link and I do not know what that is. Can I control it or not? Or would I have to set both timers? This may be the diffrence as to if I pull the trigger on a purchase. I really thought the Ram features especially the e55 at its price point finally made a nice replacment for that ole VHS for just recording shows. Can I make it fly??
