  1. TMPGEnc DVD Author is taking 30-40 mins to compile my DVDs on an XP2200 with 512Mb RAM. As far as I can gather, all of the MPEGs are compliant and nothing is being re-encoded. I have about 70 x 5-sec motion menu thumbnails but turning motion menus off completely doesn't seem to change the duration that much. Is this speed normal? Most of the time seems to be spent writing the main files and I am worried the software is doing something I don't know about (especially with the audio). Everything is encoded using MainConcept MPEG Encoder using the standard MPEG2 template but audio at 384kbps.

Also I capture and encode in D2 (half D1) a lot and I've discovered that TMPGENC DVD Author won't accept the D2 size MPEGS at all when they are encoded with the 16:9 flag set rather than 4:3. Any thoughts? Should I encode them at 4:3, but then I'll have to switch the AR manually on TV? Its annoying because my DVD player plays them perfectly in 16:9 from an ISO DVD.

That sounds about right. I use a Pentium 4 w/512 Meg for full and 1/2 D1, usually 4:3 and it takes about the same time.

It takes my system 15 minutes to compile, background apps and or virus scanners might slow down your time.If your audio is 44khz then that will be resampled and take more time.
    I think,therefore i am a hamster.
