I'm having a weird problem. I have set up 4 tracks and a menu using TMPGEnc DVD Authoring. The bar at the bottom says it's only 4086MB out of 4438MB. There is still a chunk of white space left in the bar. I have burned it onto a DVD+RW (4.7GB from Legacy) and all of them plays fine. However, when I burn it onto a DVD-R, the last track cannot load. The other three tracks and menu plays excellent but when I select the last track, it doesn't load. Why is this? I have double-checked in TDA and everything is fine. The M2V plays fine on the computer as well. The brand of DVD-R I'm using is unknown because it's generic, there is no brand name or disc capacity listed anywhere. Please help! At first I thought it was a corrupt DVD-R but now I have wasted 2 DVD-Rs.![]()
I loaded my VOBs in DVD Shrink and all of the tracks plays fine, even the last one. So I know it is not TDA's problem but a disc problem. Could it be that the generic DVD-Rs have a smaller capacity then the usual 4.7? But then again, I'm pretty sure I've burned many DVDs that takes even more space than this one and they all work fine.![]()

The last spindle of cheap disks I bought I eneded up throwing away about half because they would not produce a good burn. The problems weren't always at the edges, and weren't always visible faults either.
Moral of the story - avoid generic brand disks. You might (as I did) get lucky with the first spindle and get 50 good disks, or you might get 2 out 10 working. Not worth the chance. -
So other discs in the spindle might work? But I've tried two and they both had the same problem which is kind of weird.
What brands would you recommend?

Ritek seem to be the most favoured. Look at the DVD Media page (link to your left) to see what people are using and how it stacks up.
Yes, other disks in the spindle might be OK, but you won't know until you test them. Unless you are going to take them back for a refund, you haven't got much to lose but time if you do try the rest. -
I tried burning other episodes and this time, the last track plays fine. However, during the last few minutes of the last track, it freezes and it won't play. Then it returns to the menu.
It's like the DVD burner doesn't burn the last part. Is there some way to check if it's burning properly? Or maybe some way to check if the DVD-R is corrupted before burning? I don't want to waste my money. I wish DVD-Rs would get as cheap as CD-Rs!
