  1. Okay.

Those of you who know me, know that I am constantly questing to be able to back up my DVDs to DVD-R using my E50. I've had spotty success, although ususally I have to put the show to tape first, then bring it back.

A few weeks ago, I thought I had solved the problem. I took a DC power supply and connected it to my Optex Video Stabilizer box. It's supposed to run on 9V, but found that it wouldn't do the trick unless the battery was almost brand new. Upon turning the power supply to 9.4V, I found that I could record almost anything from DVD-Tape-DVD-R, with no fudging around.

Then, just the other day, the picture got a bit jumpy, and the system failed!!

    I DON'T GET IT!

Can anyone explain why it would work for 3 weeks, but then not now? What could be causing this?

Is there any known hack yet for disabling that annoying blue screen on the E50, and making it disregard copy protection?

    Thanks!

It probably took that long for it to fail from overvoltage. Remember that if a 9V battery measures 9.4 volts at the terminals, that's without any load applied. The internal impedance of any battery will limit the current and cause the voltage to drop when it's under load. Replacing it with a power supply (with virtually zero internal impedance) set to the open-circuit voltage is probably too much for it. It sounds like that's what you did to me. If not, never mind

I thought of that. However, I usually turn the power supply down to 8.4V or so after getting the thing started.

Also, I did a test, trying to get the box to work to copy a heavily Macroe'd disk to tape, adn it wouldn't come without it, but did with it. (It cleared up picture bending, distortion.) Thus, I think the Optex is still okay.

    Any other ideas?
