    Hello,

My Norcent dp300 will not play Mpeg files put on a Dvd+R anymore and I am looking for cheap player in the us that will do the same thing. The norcent seems to be ok with regular DVD's, but it will not simply read the mpeg files that it just did 3 weeks ago. I have looked through the Dvd player list and I see that people seem to like the Philips DVP642, but it seems to be real tricky to get right now. Anyway does anyone have any suggestions. Oh yeah The norcent read a regular Dvd movie burned on the Dvd+R. Thanks for you help!

  2. I don ´t know much about what is and what is not available in the US, but I think I can recommend that you check out this player:
    Yamada DVX-6600

I think it will play most of your movies (including mpg)

or you can just use the search function on this site to find the player you´re looking for

The Apex DVD players that sell at Walmart play the mpg files on my disks.

I was surprised when they did ... no special arrangement they were just on a CD and they were displayed and played ... like ... wow ... cool.

Cyberhome CH-DVD-300(S), or something like that..Found @ Worst Buy often for $40-$5 MIR. Plays (S)VCD's/mp3s/mpgs. As far as burned DVD's, I've only used -R's in mine, so YMMV with the +R's.

I had a similar problem with my Norcent dp-300.
I took it apart and cleaned the laser with rubbing alcohol and a q-tip.
Problem solved. A few screws and a few minutes was all it took.
Its a good unit but it is not sealed well. Dust, pet hair, etc get into
the unit and fog up the lens. A gentle puff of compressed air may
    accomplish the same results.

    Best of Luck

Philips DVP 642. Easily the cheapest and best on the market. $70 and will play anything you throw at it. I haven't found anything it won't play yet. cd, cdr, cdrw, vcd, svcd, mpeg1, mpeg2, divx 3.11, 4.12, 5+, xvid, jpeg, mp3.

Solid machine. I may buy another one.
