    Short Summary:
I need a way to extract the Boot files from a working Bootable DVD so I can use them to make a new bootable DVD.

    Long Quesiton:
I have a Bootable DVd that we use for ghosting laptops at work. However I need to make a new version with an updated image. The Boot files are not visibile when I view the DVD in Windows Explorer so I need some way of extracting them.

We have EZ CD Creator 5 which doesn't seem to have a way to extract those files. What downloadable software can I use to do this? Ideally I just need to take the current DVD (boot files and regular files) and just replace the regular files with updated ones.

    Thanks!

Just use the disc copy feature in your burning program.

I don't need to copy the disk. I only need to copy the Boot Files and replace the rest of the files with newer versions. So basically create a whole new DVD layout but I need a way of getting the boot files from the working DVD off into a BIN file or something so I can import it to the new DVD layout.

You'll have to get the program that created the boot disc in the first place. I don't even know if command line commands can copy boot files.

This is the way I make my Bootable DVD:

Make a Boot Floppy Disk with the Ghost.exe in there. I usually make an AUTOEXACT.bat file to boot directly into GHOST.

Make the Bootable DVD with Nero. It will ask for the BootDisk, insert the BootDisk (floppy). Make sure you put in the new Ghost images in the DVD Folder, then Burn away. It works like a charm.

Would that work if I had the Ghost.exe file as an actual file and not on the floppy? Ghost 8's executable file is too big to fit on a floppy. Otherwise I guess I can use our old version 7 disk...

Update: I took the current Boot DVD we have that works fine. I used somethign called MagicISO to pull of the Boot Files and copy them to a disk. I then used Nero to create the DVD and said to use the Disk to get the boot files from.

It wrote the whole thing but then when I tried to use it it says:

NTLDR not found (or whatever that standard message is).

After the fact I tried booting off the floppy and it too says NTLDR is missing.

Is there a certain file I need to make sure is there for it to work or something like that?

Guess I'll play around a bit more.

    Any idea what went wrong?

It sounds like you're missing some files.

Yes you can put the Ghost.exe in the ROOT of the DVD directory. You will neeed to navigate to your DVD-ROM drive, then to the Ghost.exe, better fresh up on your DOS commands.

I'm still using Ghost 2002, it fits on the floppy and works like a charm. I have a DVD with both 98se and XP images on it. I dual-boot both of those OS's and the DVD comes in real handy.

    Good luck!

Ended up getting it working by taking a 98 boot disk and just replacing the autoexec and config.sys files with the ones from my other DVD. Then just modified the command to call the ghost.exe file and it worked just fine.
