  1. I have a friend that is wanting to use his monitor to view and capture a picture. His camera screen is to small and he wants to use the screen as a large viewer so he can get the picture in focus before he captures it.
I was wondering what capture card would give him the most bang for his buck.
He has a Sony Mavica MVC-FD85 that has a video out plug and I was wondering if this is only for viewing pictures and video that he has already taken or will he be able to view a live pic/video. Here is a pdf of his cameras specs and info... http://www.caup.washington.edu/computing/public/docs/MVCFD85.pdf
    What do you guys/gals think??

    Thanks,
    Steve

If you can see a real time preview using the video out on a TV then you can use a capture card to preview it on your computer.

Most likley you don't need a capture card, you can accomplish this through the software provided with the camera which is probably your best option. Output size will depend on the camera.

The problem is the preview sent to the TV or monitor will be very low res so any capture he gets would only be good for a web page or silimar.

Oh...Best bang for your buck Leadtek 2000xp $50, probably even less. But as Capmaster stated doesn't really matter because of the low resolution of the preview. Why not just take a bunch of pics till you get what your after? It is a digital camera.

Second that, you won't get full res live output so no advantage for a computer capture card over just hooking it up to a TV or composite monitor.

Commodore 1902A composite monitor would be a good one, around $50 or less used and about the best composite picture I've seen, but just TV output would really probably be enough to go by.

While you can't see it directly, focus long until you get blurring, then focus short until you get blurring, then split the difference and you should be near maximum sharpness.
