LG GSA-4120B and 8X media

I just bought this drive and am looking for media. Can you do an 8X burn w/ 4X media with this device? If so which brands work and do you need a firmware upgrade or any special process to do so? I can use +R or -R but would prefer -R. Any recommendation for good deals on actual 8X media would also be appreciated. Thanks.

Judging by KProbe scans on a few Japanese sites this is a pretty good burner for 8x media. The media tested include:

DVD-R
TYG02
MCC 02RG20
MXL RG03
TTG02
SONY08D1

DVD+R
YUDEN000T02 (burns at 12x)
RICOHJPNR02 (also burns at 12x)
MCC 003
