My dvd ram drive on my computer will not burn blank discs. Nero's burn screen acts like it doesn't burn dvds. Imgburn says theres a non reportable drive problem. The computer shows it as a CD-Rom.
I've done firmware upgrades and downgrades, no luck. Suggestions?

I've never been able to get either of my LG drives to work with RAM. There should be a special driver or something on the disc that came with the drive to enable RAM. I tried it once and it sucked....never investigated further because I don't need RAM anyway....but I still wouldn't trade either of my drives for anything short of a Pioneer...my LG's are awesome...and the are pretty damn old too.

You need a ram driver:-
did your burner come with a disc of software as I think its on their.
Try also going into control panel and uninstalling the burner and restarting your PC
here it is:-

and I think its on the cd that comes with lg burners, its something to do with BHA but know it worksPAL/NTSC problem solver.

I put in a blank Sony dvd-r media code:SONY16D1, and it burned it. Its funny cause I've burned 100s of verbatim dvd-rs with this drive. Infact, I only use Sony or Verbatim dvd-r. These Verbatims are less than a week old, their from a 100pk I purchased at Micro center. -
Some 100 packs of VERBATIM DVD-R w/media id "MCC 03RG20" have been flaky. I had some discs only burn at 4x speed, go figure! Check out Cdfreaks.com media section and you can find members there who are guru's when it comes to finding the good VERBATIM spindles of dvd media.

Check in Device Manager if your drive shows up correctly.
If Windows Explorer shows it as CD-Rom - that really doesnīt matter. Could be because of the last disc used - Windows acts rare on that.
Itīs like when it "remembers" the title of the last CD/DVD - even if you changed it various times.
Check in Device Manager if there are weird upper or lower filter installed, or called, but not there anymore. Delete them in the registry. Reboot.
Also check if DMA is still enabled.
This all has nothing to do with RAM or no RAM. Maybe you uninstalled another burning program, and drivers (lower / upper filters) are still activated - but uninstalled or corrupted -
