Well, as has now been established, DVD-Lab apparently does a thoroughly poor job when it comes to I-frames and chapters (and subtitles, incidentally). But it seems to me... that chapter information is probably only the tiniest bit of data in the whole DVD. As long as the information is not integrated with the rest of the DVD's data in some needlessly irreversible fashion, I have to suspect that it should be possible to change chapter information after the DVD is created.

Naturally, this should only work if the new timings land on I-frames. But that's about all I can say with any degree of certainty. Point is, I force my mpeg2 encoder to create I-frames at specific spots. I try to tell DVD-Lab where I want chapters, but it only approximates. And then it spits out something even less accurate - sometimes by a full second or two. The chapters are worthless! I need to get that fixed.

    Hi Colmino,

Check out IfoEdit - I've not used it for changing the chapter timings, but would guess it's possible as it's a powerful tool. "How?" is a different question that I can't answer.

    Hopefully someone else can...

    Good luck.

  3. ifo edit will change your chapter points dont know how exactly because i only use it for authoring, but it will require a text file with the frame where you want your chapter point. The way I create them (for authoring) is that I multiply the framerate of the movie times the number of seconds where you want the chapter placed. that is if you want the second chapter at 10 minutes use

    chapter point = frateX10minx60

the text file must be a column of these positions the following is a general file I use for positions every ten minutes in a 29.97 fps NTSC file (starts from chapter two since chapter one is fixed at start of movie).
