  1. I've created my own DVDs out of 29.97 fps material, and they play perfectly on all DVD players *except* the Playstation 2. Rather than playing back smoothly, it is jerky.

It's as if the PS2 is thinking the video is 23.97 fps or something. The reason I suspect this is when I play the video in slow motion, I can see it play 12 frames and then skip 3, and repeat. What this does is cause a slight jump in the video twice a second. And rather than ~30fps, it's showing ~24 and skipping the other 6.

Has anybody else seen such a thing? My MPEG2 encoder is Vegas 4 (Mainconcept)

  2. I've started a thread in the authoring section.
I made a test disc with the following video sources, and every single one exhibited the same problems:

    TMPGEnc - No Audio
TMPGEnc - Bottom Field First - No Audio
    Vegas 4
    Vegas 4 - No Audio
Direct MPEG2 capture from Hauppauge PVR-250
Hauppauge Capture, edited by Womble MPEG VCR
Vegas 4 - No VirtualDub (Opened recording from PVR-250 directly)

I'm using DVD-Lab, so I'm thinking it may be at fault somehow.

  3. ps2s are media picky what are you using?

also ps2 has a dvd diag menu you can use to play dvds better, I forgot how to get it but should be in the manual.

  4. I have tried Taiyo Yuden, Ritek, Fuji (Ricoh)
    It's not a media problem.

  5. For what it's worth, I've discovered that this problem is limited to DVD-Lab 1.3 (and probably earlier). The 1.4 beta versions do not have the problem. Smooth as silk.
