  1. I have been backing up data on my computer using Nero 6, NEC 1300A, and some Ritec G04 DVD-R.

I set Nero to do a DVD-ROM ISO and it seems to burn fine unless a file is over 2 GB. If a file is over 2 GB It will ask me to do a UDF ISO.. If I do a UDF ISO it will fail between 50% and 90%. every time.

Because of this I then took my 2 GB+ files and broke them down into 1 GB files or less. It then let me do the DVD-ROM ISO just fine as I have done before.

Heres the problem. I always go back to the DVD and open up a few files just to see if its ok.. I did this and yes it appeared ok.. I then opened up a rar file and asked Winrar to check it.. Just as a double verification for me that it was ok.. Out of 4 rar files on the disk one gave me this error. (Data error (cyclic redundancy check).

I assumed it was a just a glitch.. I tried it again and got the same error.
I then open and shut the DVD drive which did not help. I then rebooted which did not help.

I then burnt another disk which gave me the same error but in another rar file?? I burnt 2 more again with (cyclic redundancy check errors) in various rar files.

I double checked the rar files on my hard drive and they are ok.

After reading a few post here about simular problems I did a scan disk and updated my firmware as of a few mins ago.

I have not tried it again.. I have aready wasted enough disk. I thought I would post here for any suggestions first.

    Thanks,

I just bought a 50 pack spindle of Ritek Ritec G04 dvd-r and they are crap,50% have errors on 50-99% on scanning with dvdinfopro and i`ve burned many dvds before this with much better results,no errors with maxell mxl and even sonic dvd+r crap had less errors.

  4. I have never managed to get a full working G04 from ND1300A at 4x, they burn fine but fails to verify. 2X burning will solve the problem, if you still experience problems then get another burning app, for ex make ISO files with Nero and burn them with DVD Decrypter.

  6. the original fault with this thread is that nero will fail most times with files around the 2gig size mark, mainly because its shit, and secondly because theres not really many files that should be that size.
    for movie dvds,its roughy 1 gig,etc.
try breaking it up more, like 500meg files.
or if its your actual hard drive your trying to back up,then use norton ghost or something.as for your writer, maybe a firmware update would enable it to use the G04s, as i assume that not all firmware is going to be instantly compatible with newer media.

If you read the original poster said he/she made the files smaller so the 2 gig issue isnt the point, its the dvd-r media thats failing.

Ive gone through 200 G04's all purchased at www.newegg.com, none have failed on me yet. Last 25 burns verified just fine, before that I didn't really do it. I don't know if its Ritek's media failing or if its just fakes/knockoffs that companies are getting. Every Ritek I've bought from Newegg has been perfect, including in the last month or 2, when people seem to be having the most issues. Stick with a good reputable shop for your media, and make sure its not just a firmware issue too.

Oh and try other burning programs. I only use DVD Shrink to rip/transcode and then DVD Decrypter to burn the output ISO, every movie I've burnt has worked just fine.

  9. I appriciate so many responses so Quick!.. I had to step away a few hours or I was gonna break something!!

Its got me feeling like its impossible to back up data Grrr!!

I love my old liteon CD burner but I need more room.

I did forget to mention that the last burn I did try at 2X but it still gave me the same error.

I have DVDdecrypter so I will try it out burning an Iso file to DVD.

You also mentioned that Nero was bad? I used Easy CD creater for a while and change to Nero only to give it a try because I read on several forums that Nero was a bit better thaan Easy CD.

    So.. my questions now are..

What software should I use to backup my data. Should I do as one person suggested.. Use DVD decrypter to burn Iso of everything ?

    &

If Ritec are now crap (or possibley other bbad brands sold as Ritec?) what media can I trust? I spent a while (week+) researching which media to use with the 1300A. I seen you mentioned maxell mxl. Are their any otjer brands out their that are worry free (except for an occasional (rare) error).

And if your wondering whats 2 GB plus.. I took a few games and updated them to the latest patches.. mods, addins ect.. and then rared up the whole file. POOF.. 3 gigs!! Its just a pain when I go back to play a game again and have to reinstall all the old patches.. espesially when some are quirky and mods even worse.. when I get it just right I like to keep it that way.. But as I mentioned before I did break those all up into less that a gig apiece just so I would have no problems.. I also never max out the DVD.. I know they hold 4.37 GB so I keep it at around 4-4.2 just incase.

Thanks again for the help so far, Im going to try the DVDdecrypter and ISO.

  11. I found a post on this site.... heres the link:
    https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=215073&highlight=1300a+media

It appears that I have Ritecs with the code:
    00 42 00 00 01 40 C1 FD 9E D8 52 00 02 76 0E 14
So that may be my problem all along.

(johns0) I am going to go to Walmart and try those Maxells you mentioned

Anyone have other suggestions of good media for a 1300A

    Thanks
    r1013

"Also note that there are 3 or more Ritek G04 formula variations.

    00 42 00 00 01 40 C1 FD 9E D8 52 00 02 35 0E 0B
    and
    00 42 00 00 01 40 C1 FD 9E D8 52 00 02 65 0E 0B

are reported to be both good with the 2500 and 1300

    while
    00 42 00 00 01 40 C1 FD 9E D8 52 00 02 76 0E 14

is said to cause problems, and may not even load in the 1300. "
