I want to compress mpegs.

Hi,

I have some mpegs I would like to compress. The mpegs are 22 megs for 2.5 minutes. I was wondering if it is possible to compress them more. What programs should I use? How much can you decrease the size of the mpeg? I would also like any other ideas for help you might have. You can email me or answer here thanks.

yea compress them to an avi file which is much smaller if u use a codec that really compresses like divx....use virtual dub

there is no way to "compress on the fly" any mpeg ...at least not that I know of....the only way is to re-encode with a lower bit rate.(bit rate calculator)...and also sacrifice quality..OR...split the mpeg and use two 33 cent cdr's....thats what i do.

If you want to keep the mpeg as an mpeg but just reduce the size use Flask to alter the bitrate to what you want, the less the bit rate the worse the quality suggest 1000 for vid and 128 for audio you can go lower but it gets worse. Also try dvd ulead movie factory, it has a good way to see what your original mpg properties are e.g mpeg 1 1150 bits\sec video 224 audio. Hope that helps
