My burner wasn’t working in XP before but I just figured out that the problem is it won’t work with DMA but it will with PIO Mode on my secondary IDE channel. This seems to slow down the burning and ripping. I tried switching with an old IDE cable but it didn’t do anything. I also recently started have a problem where I can’t rip burned DVD’s in file mode I have to rip them as in IFO mode with DVD Decryptor but other rippers don’t seem to work. Does this sound like an IDE channel, burner, or software problem?

how did you try to change it to DMA? XP likes to switch it on you after a while and to get it back to DMA you have to uninstall the IDE channel its on from the Hardware manager. After reboot it will redetect and usually go back into DMA mode. Try that if you haven't already.
