  1. Hello! I simply need to know, which is the DVD player that supports VCD the best? It must be able to play all (or most) cd-r's. Of course, I'm looking for the cheeeepest.

  2. I have an Apex DVD player from BestBuy. It plays Cdr's Cdrw's, DVD,SVCD,XSVCD,VCD,XVCD, Variable bitrates with video. 48000hz audio or 44.1khz audio. Pretty much everything I throw at it. It also plays MP3 cd's. 2 draw backs are the Menu you get for mp3 cd's only displays 8 or 10 letters. Sometimes when switching vcd's it may not play the next vcd correctly. I just turn it off and back on and it's good to go. It was $109 on sale at BestBuy. Apex ad-3201 model. I've also heard pioneer models are real good for vcd's as well I don't have one so I can't say.

IF you want a quick and easy solution that will play SVCD and VCD, go with the Pioneer DV-333 or DV-342.

Okay, you asked for which DVD player is the best for VCD. The answer is simple: Pioneer. Playback of VCD (on CDR and CDRW media), SVCD, SxVCD, SeVCD, DVD, etc. is absolutely superb! Compression artifacts are virtually non-existent.

Had you asked "which DVD player is the least expensive with average/mediocre VCD playback?" then the answer would be Apex.
