Sorry for another "which media" question.

Was going to go with TDK 50 spindle of 4x DVD-R for $130Aud but found the Ritek G04 100 spindle on special for $97Aud.

Are the G04's as good a quality as the TDK's ?
Where are the G04's made ?

    Thanks

  2. I don't know who makes TDK 4X DVD-Rs ( media code). But ritek's reputation these days have been downhill especially G04s. It was written many times here than the only good G04s were the inkjet-printable ones. I would at least get those. Man those disks are expensive in Australia. Isn't $1AU= $0.85 US? I know ritek G04s can be had around $0.60 to $0.80 a disc in the US online.

The TDK's show as TY. Made in Japan.

The Riteks were advertised as printable so perhaps they are decent.

I'm not sure if I should bother trying to stay clear of Shintaros (Princos) or not.

    Thanks

TDK = TTG01 (not Taiyo Yuden, just a TDK code)
    I'd take TDK over RITEK

This is the result I got when I stuck in a TDK DVD-R.

    Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD-R:TYG01]
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Disc Type : [DVD-R]
    Manufacturer ID : [TYG01]
Manufacturer Name : [Taiyo Yuden Co. Ltd.]
Disc Application Code : [Unrestricted Use : Consumer Purpose]
    Recording Speeds : [1x , 2x , 4x] (8x Cannot Be Detected)
    Blank Disc Capacity : [2,298,496 Sectors = 4,489.3MB = 4.38GB (4.71GB)]
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Some are obviously TY.

    These ones are labelled Japan.
The packaging shows that we here in Australia get the Euro version.
    USA may be different.

Are the TY discs top of the line ?

Here is TDK.au link for the discs.

Hopefully the 50spindle are the same discs but with printable tops.

Still might be hard to pass up the G04's when the TDK's are 2.5x the price.

    Arrgghh, it's all too hard.

  8. Yup, they are from Taiyo Yuden, and the 50 spindle are from Taiyo Yuden as well. I have them with me...

They are of excellent quality, but at the mother hand... you will need to take your chance with Ritek... they can be excellent to beer-mat
