    Hi,
I have the NEC ND-2500A DVD writer and burning with Toast 6. I have a problem with burning some movies. I burn them at the lowest speed (x2) and still this seems to be to fast as the movie jumps and freezes. Some movies works ok, but mostly not

I don't find a way to burn in x1 speed? Or is there something else I do wrong?

Yeah, definitely sounds like a problem with bad media. This problem is on a set-top DVD player, right?

In my copy of Toast, it never records DVD-R at 1x speed in the external burner, I don't know why. It always defaults to Best, which, in my case is 2x. Luckily I havent had any underrun issues since moving from Toast 5 to 6.

you can turn it off BEST and actually choose 1x
but jumping and freezing is totally up to poor media brands and a bad/cheap dvd player.

Go with TDK or Ritek dvd's and make sure your dvd player is respectable. One way to find out if your dvd player is cheap/not working well is to play that jumpy dvd in your computer. It plays fine in there then its got to be either media choice or your dvd player. Get TDK or Ritek media and if you still get jumpy playback its got to be the dvd player.

Does it jump when you play with DVD Player on the Mac?

My DVD player is not a top player, but I think it's ok. IT's a Samsung SV DVD1E combined DVD and VHS machine.

BUT now I found a media that is working fine Its a brand called FORTIS. Should I use the + or - though? (to be compatible with other DVD players such as PS2 etc.)

My SV-DVD1E didn't like iDVD3 burned Maxell -R disks (burned using Nec ND-2500A), it had some kind artifacts. Made copy of original DVD-R, target media was Philips 4x +RW, works perfectly. But of course, iDVD doesn't show burning speed and I didn't have stopwatch. Bottomline is SV-DVD1E plays almost anything you can insert into, if media is ok

Toast 6 sometimes reports available burning speeds strangely. It shows certain speeds in italic and may not show all speeds. When you click speed selection list again, it may show everything correctly. I think there's definitely something to be fixed....

    miksu,
Funny thing that we have the same DVD writer (Nec ND-2500A) AND DVD player (SV-DVD1E)

Do you have any other good tips to give me about the DVD player? I have installed att microvision kille chip but it wont work?

Also I have changed the remote controll 3 times now, the numbers 1-9 on the remote stop working. Samsung say's it's only me having this problem but I don't belive them.
