    Hi,

I'm new to the forum although I've used the info on the website for a while. Thank you for all the comprehensive information provided in this site.

I have a 1-year old Lite-On 1101HC1 which is a basic DVD recorder for DVD+R/RW media. It recorded just fine until a couple of months ago, when it started to have problem recording. When played back either on the dvd player or computer, it skipped periodically. If other DVD's are played on the player, they play just fine though, so it's just the recording part that's an issue.

I've tried a couple of different media (Verbatim 8xDVD+R and Memorex 4xDVDRW) with the same result. I've tried restoring the setup on the player, including changing the resolution (HQ, SP, LP, etc) with no avail.

I just want to have your opinion whether this is a broken dvd recorder or it's something more fixable, such as head cleaning would do.

    Thanks a lot.

Tough to say exactly, so lets start off with the easy to diagnose things.

What kind of media are you using?
Did you change from previous successful DVD+R / +RW?

Next I would venture to guess that the problems could be your DVD writer/burner. Could be the lense has gone awry/dirty. Check your user manual to see if it covers instructions on cleaning the lense (DVD players/recorders dont have heads ). If none of that works, then your burner is bad and will need to be replaced. Just my humble opinion.

Lite-on Provides firmware updates for their recorders. Update the firmware in case tht is the source of your problem. If you call Lite-on they will suggest this before proceeding with any other trouble shooting.

This unit requires significant open space around it. Using it in an area without adequate ventilation will lead to problems.

Cleaning the laser is a good idea.

Thanks for all the good inputs.

I've used Verbatim 8xDVD+R successfully before, and I think Memorex 16xDVD+R. I don't use this recorder that much. But yeah, something seems to have changed that it used to burn without problem and then now it doesn't burn so well.

I'll try the lens cleaning dvd (Not head cleaning, tq) + the firmware update.
