  1. Hi, I've captured a 2 hour movie via a optibase capture card (mpeg2, dvd complient) and I've compiled it with dvdlab and made menus. I've tryed burning it with nero 6 ultra edition, Imgtool, and Roxio's classic creator. They all fail. I've created at least 10 costers within the last week trying to figure out whats wrong.

What happens is it will go to 1 percent and stay there for about 5 minutes and then say it failed. What am I doing wrong?

    Thank you.

i succeeded burning to disc with dvd lab neither.
i solved it this way: i burn to image with dvd lab, and burn that image to disc with the prog that came with my dvd burner (as dvd lab advised), which is pinnacle instant dvd in my case.
Music was my first love, and it will be my last

  3. Thanks for the tip, but I am already burning with other programs. I am just compiling and making menues with dvdlab.

I sort of fixed it, though not really....

What I did was set it to play the movie instead of going to the main menu when you first put the disc in. I also took out all my chapter menus. So All I have is a disc that plays right away and a Main menu with a coulpe of lines of text, a picture, and the play button.

What good is making menus if you can't burn them??? Anyways, I was able to burn the dvd with Roxio Classic Creator. Why won't my menu's let me burn? All they where was picture Chapter buttons.

    Any Ideas???

    Thanks for the help.

No1. Get yourseld some RW media, makes life a lot cheaper when you are trouble shooting a problem burn!

No.2 Try demuxing the mpg first (wierd but has worked for me in the past when strange things have been going on) then build it into your DVD

  6. If DVDLab compiled it with no errors, then I'm leaning towards burner or media problems too.
The only other thing, is the compilation is fine, but the burning mode is wrong.

  7. Thanks for the tips,

Couple of things. Firstly, I think the movie files are demuxed to begin with. That is if that means that there are a .mpv and .mpa file.

The burnner is a TDK. How should I be burning them? What are the settings?

I've also had a problem with the my movies pausing for a second (like a skip). THey just pause and then continue, maybe only 2 or 3 times on a full movie. Its very specific when it happens. Always in the exact same place and always for the same amount of time.

    Any Ideas?

Whats the most rock solid way to author DVDs?

    Thanks.

  8. First and foremost, as was mentioned above by pyscrow, GET YOURSELF SOME RW MEDIA! Don't burn your test discs to +R or -R discs. With +RW or -RW you can rewrite them as many times as you want if it doesn't work. Trust me, do this and you may never make a coaster again! (You said that your drive is TDK. What is your drive model number? Is it DVD+R, DVD-R, or both? And which type of media are you trying to use? What brand media are you using? What is the media code?)

Second, if you are authoring with DVDLab, you're already using the best authoring solution there is available on a budget. Author your disc however you want and compile it in DVDLab and you can be sure that you've got a good file set to burn. (Having more or less movies, menus, chapters, etc. will not cause your disc to fail on burning. If it's going to fail because of your disc structure, it will fail during the compile.)

Third, once you have the file set from the compile, make sure you are using the most recent version of Nero (6.3.1.10, I think), and use Nero Express to burn. This takes a lot of the guesswork out of using the full Nero package (which can be daunting at first, and you can set wrong parameters without realizing it if you don't know what you're doing). Use the DVD Video option, and drop your files into the VIDEO_TS folder. When you get to the burn screen, Nero Express checks out your files and verifies that they are in the proper format. It acknowledges this with a message in the window which says "(No files modified)". Once you've seen this message, you know for sure that the data you are trying to burn is not your problem.

Fourth, many DVD writers pause at 1% while the lead-in is written. This by itself is not unusual. If it reports failure immediately after that (without ever getting to 2%), it is likely because the lead-in could not be properly written to the disc. This can happen because of problems with your system, your burner, or the media. But if you've gotten to this point, the problem is not with your data.

    Some steps to take:

    1. Buy some RW media for testing purposes. Even 1 disc is enough.

    2. See if you can burn your program onto RW. If you can, your problem is likely media-specific. Try a different brand of -R or +R. (And be sure to get a refund on the coasters you've made.)

    3. If this does not solve it, you likely have a problem with the burner itself, or your system's ability to provide data to the burner. These are more complicated to sort out. Start by analyzing the error messages you get and the log files Nero produces.

    Good luck!

  9. i always run my home made movies through DVD2ONE before i burn them finally,as for some reason, when i get burn errors using say,dvd-lab,if i go and pass the dvd-lab made dvd files through dvd20ne,it will work flawlessly on al my players.
the other way either would give me a coaster,or not burn at all.
and yeh,its very handy having a few DVD-RWs,or DVD+RWs discs to "pre"burn onto.
