Hello, I've bought a 10-Pack of Maxell's (Made in Japin), none of the backups I've been burning have been playing correctly, all of them freeze-up and the DVD player freezes & goes blank basically !!! This is the 1st pack of Maxell's that have been having this problem, all of my other Maxell "Made in Japan's" have been playing correctly, what do you guys think the problem is, is it my player or just a "screwed-up" package???

first of all what software are you using to burn your dvds? it would be helpful if you stated the brand of your dvd burner. TAIYO YUDEN is considered the best dvd media. I doubt it's TAIYO YUDEN's. have you tried the discs on another dvd player? if we knew what software you're using we can help you figure this out.

Those are Taiyo Yuden, maxell has been using them when they run out of their own brand, best thing to do then is see if there is a firmware update for your burner to see if that makes the dvds more compatible.

My dvd burner is a NEC ND-2500A with firmware 1.07b by Herrie. I highly doubt it's the TAIYO YUDEN's either, since I've been knowing for about 3 years that they make the BEST quality media out there. I'm using DVDShrink with Nero 6 as the burn engine. I've been using DVDShrink with Nero 6 for quite some time and I've had no problems so far, this is the 1st time this has been happening. I have noticed that after it's finished burning lately, that there's no "VIDEO_TS" folder which could be the problem... Oh yeah, my TV has a DVD player and a VCR, just if you guys wanted/needed to know. :P

Sounds more like the DVD player has given up the ghost !
Test some of the previous batches of DVDs and see what happens, and test your 'funny' DVD's in someone else's player.

Try uninstalling NERO, then use NERO CLEAN TOOLS, then reinstall it.
Here's the download for the NERO CLEAN TOOL: http://www.nero.com/us/631940828445001.html

You may want to use a older version of DVD SHRINK like version 3.05 BETA. I know the latest version of DVD SHRINK has the built in capability to use NERO to burn. Some people have similar problems using the latest DVD SHRINK. Here's the download of version 3.05 BETA:

Try it out and see what happens & as suggested try those buggy discs in another dvd player. Good Luck!
