  1. Hi,

I hope this is the right forum for my query, it's a bit of a general question.

I have aquired a DVDr which has 3 movies burned onto it; Freddy V Jason, Cabin Fever and Underworld.

There is also a front end menu and also subtitles (English only).

My question is: What software package(s) would I need to do something similar with another 3 movies? I've gathered from other forums that DVD Shrink and TMPEG are popular, but I've tried these and they don't seem to cope with menus and subtitles. Also I can only seem to get two movies onto one DVD with these. Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance

  3. DVDShrink would have to shrink them to about 15%, then you could use TMPGEnc DVD Author to put 3 on one dvdr.
If you have files in avi format, tmpgenc to encode, and again, author.
To get menus and chapters for 3 titles on one dvdr is going to take some guide reading.

That's the thing - I can't fault the quality, both picture and sound are really good! (They are VOB files)

They don't have chapters - only menus & subtitles - I'll go wade in the guides....

  6. Don't use tmpgenc dvd author to combine all three movies. You will lose the subtitles. Do that in dvdshrink. Only use tmpgenc dvd author for burning. I do not use tmpgenc 2.5 plus for encode either. That was how I did my movies. I totally used dvdshrink to add all movies together in one and then with tmpgenc to burn. That was all.

  7. Agreed, if they're vob's and not avi's then just use dvdshrink to combine all 3 onto one dvdr.

actually that wont give the best results

i have made several dvd's with around 3 sometimes 4 movies on them

dvdshrink is great if it only needs to reduce the size by a few percent maybe upto 20% as a max, but after that quality seriously suffers, and the best results by far are obtained by re-encoding eg with tmpeg enc.

once you have encoded the 3 movie files and its most likely to be just the video on its own, as ac3 audio is very small, and that is how it comes on an original dvd, so you dont have to do anything with it. or use mp2 to save a little extra space.

feed these into Tmpeg DVD Author, a different program from the one you used to encode with but made by the same company. This allows you to easily make menus and chapters. and thats you.

the only thing ud have trouble with is the subtitles, unless you hard encoded them on top of the video. but for optional subtitles ud probably need to use dvd lab or something.

  9. funny, the compression required to put these 3 movies onto 1 dvdr would probably be around 75%. inotherwords the compression setting in Shrink (if it were available) would be 25%!! or one can recompress the movies over and over again 'til they fit. cannot believe the quality, even viewed on a 12" TV would be acceptable. oh well, glad you cannot fault the movie quality.

I have put around 5 hours of content onto DVD and have created navigational menus, chapter points etc.

I have re-encoded to 352 X 288 MPEG-2 @ 1800kbps, made audio mp2 192kbps, and created menus with TMPGEnc DVD Author. I personally don't have a use for subtitles as I speak english and only watch english-speaking films.

    The results are excellent.

The downside of using DVDShrink is that you have no menus.
    If in doubt, Google it.

I put multiple movies on a DVDr all the time. Lot of times it's just stuff I cap off cable, but some I have made from DVDs. The DVDs I just demux the video & audio and then I half the resolution & re-encode it with CCE & AVISynth, re-authoring with either DVD-Lab or SpruceUp. DVD shrink is okay for doing backups of a single movie but the quality really degrades (tiles/blocks) too much using it to put more than one movie on a DVDr for my liking.

  12. Hi,

Is it possible to rip two/three/four movies complete then author them onto one disc? That is, can I rip more than one DVD complete with menus and chapter points/subtitle, extras whatever, place the whole thing on one dics alongside another complete DVD, create a frontend menu to link to the menus within each complete rip?

  14. Hi,

Found s guide for DVD-Lab Pro 1.4b, and created one DVD with two full movies on it. OK, they are short movies and the total was less than 4Gbs but still, all chapter points were there and everything worked!

    Cheers
