  1. I've been looking around at the forums a lot and converted some of my dvds but had a question. Whenever I use smart ripper, then dvd-avi, then tmpgenc to make the final file... Am I actually retaining the Dolby Digital sound format that was encoded into the dvd? I was wondering this because I was going to by a sound card with an optical out and run it to my receiver..... and if the dolby digital sound isn't kept with this method, is there another way to get the dolby digital sound when converting to SVCD?

    Thanks!

SVCD does not support Dolby Digital or DTS audio.

Buy a DVD burner ... good models now for around $100 or less.

I don't see how having a "modded xbox" supercedes the need for a DVD burner but ummm whatever.

You can dump the movies on the xbox hard drive.

  6. Dump the movies on the hard drive in a DVD format. SVCD is so obsolete n picky, I cant see any reason in messing about with it.

No one said it did, I'm simply doing it for the fun of it and it comes in handy to have 20 or so movies on the hard drive when I take it places.

Why not just encode them in DIVX format and dump them on the XBOX if it's all about quality and the amount of movies you can fit on the drive? The XBOX media player can handle DIVX and other MPEG4-esque compression.

  9. Good idea, divx can be encoded with dolby digital can't it?

Yes. Just remember to keep the DVD's ac3 and not attempt to re-encode it. All you have to do is mux the ac3 with the avi video. AVI MUX GUI can do this.

  11. I tried to use Simple Divx and it has the option to do the ac3 6 channel and everything worked fine but the audio was quite out of sync? Is that what you mean by not re-encoding it?

Does the SimpleDivx try to re-encode it? I downloaded the AVI MUX GUI and drag and drop the originals files and creates and .mka file but then realized I'm not sure where to go from there.
