This is sorta complicated so I'll start from the beginning. Bought a dvd, when I got it I discovered it didn't have any english subs. So I want to add them in. I figured out how to add the subtitles in via:
https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=219535
the problem is doing this you have demux and basically dissamble the files losing the original menu, because you have to re-author it. I'm trying figure out 2 things:
1)How I can use my original menu, be it extracting it from the source and then re-using it in a author program (I've tried ulead dvd factory & TMPGENC dvd author, but they don't have a section where I can use my own custom buttons, backgrounds, etc)
2)how I can keep the extras intact?
I apprecaite any help thta can be given =)

What Isengard said.
Plus, Ulead DVD Workshop, DVDLab, and a few other non-template (only) athoring programs will do what you want. What I've done before is to take screnshots of the menus that I wanted, then import tham as a background into the authoring program. Most of the still menus, you couldn't tell that they had been re-authored (except that some of them I made better).
