  1. Newbie here,
building a new system (WinXP, Athlon 2500+, 512MB 3200 DDR) just
need a new video card to finish the build. Got a dvd-+R/RW for x-mas
last year and i want to start dabbling in video. I want to be a able to
make dvds out of old reel-to-reel home movies from the 70's.
Also from home video from the 80's (VHS). I have access to a Sony
digital camcorder (finding out what model) and plan to film the
reel-to-reel movies pirate style off a screen and firewire them into the
new pc. As far as the VHS is conserned if the camcorder has video
pass-through then i think I can digitize the video that way? If it does, do
i need a capture card to speed up simple editing? or is this all done
    in software?
If the DV camera doesn't have the capture feature and i get say a
AIW 9600 OR Radeon 9600 + Leadtek Expert (want some so-so
gaming power too but TV features aren't important). Will those software
encoders be able to handle simple editing of the DV files and captured
stuff too? I've been doing a ton of searching on the net and was exited to
find this site. However the # of cards out there is incredibly confusing!!!!!
Any help would be appreciated and thanks to all for reading this!!!

Your dv camera will transfer the video to your pc via firewire. You will need software that will capture the video from your dv camera.Check out the links on this website for capturing, encoding, and authoring.
