  1. Hi guys,

Well to be honest i got a very old computer - pII, 400mhz, 15gb and 128 mb ram + I use a tv card to capture.

When i capture to avi and convert it to mpeg and burn, the quality aint that good and it takes too long for the process. However, i was just wondering if there was a simple programme what could just capture straight to mpeg with great quality and doesent need great computer specs to do so such as Pinnacle.

    Thanks.

  2. There are programs that would do just that. But it would not help much, the bigger problem is your computer. I am sure most folks here would agree that you should get a newer and much faster computer.
It's time to kick some butts, and presto ( if you know what I mean )

Yep you definately need to get a new computer if you want to do much with video. I have a 900Mhz cpu 40 gig hd and 384 mb ram and am barely squeaking by. Really i need a second hard drive just for capturing , more ram and a faster cpu... oh well mabe in the future!

If you want a good capture card that captures directly to mpeg format look into any ati all in wonder radeon that has a theater chip. I got an inexpensive (used) one on ebay for about 40 bucks.

I think everyone is going to say you either need a new computer or a serious upgrade to your exsisting one.

    Good luck!

I didn't mind my celeron 366 (@433) when I used it. It topped out at about 640x480 with 16 bit color (on the O/S drive). Since I didn't have a DVD writer then, I made VCD/CVD exclusively. I'd let it sit overnight and encode.
