I have a sound blaster live sound card. My sound for my capture comes in on my line/in on the sound card. Make sure your sound card is recording from the right input. In my case I can enable the mic, the line/in at the same time and hear both coming through my speakers. I can independently record the mic though which would explain why you might be able to hear the sound but if it's recording the mic input or another input this might be why your capture isn't getting any sound. I ran into this problem myself.
I hope this helps.
