    Hi,

Given an M2V recoded at a different frame size than the original (e.g 352x480 instead of the original's 720x480), how can it be remuxed into the original VOB?

I will appreciate tips and pointers to 1-click software solutions that do this (if such things exist...) as well as magical IFOEdit incantations.

    Best regards,
    Cosmin

Need to understand what you've after here - are you saying that you have a M2V video file which has been encoded at half D1 and you just want to mux it back into VOBs ? - If so, then as long as it's a legal DVD size then use any Authoring package to do it - Ifoedit is free and will do it fine - It even mux's non legal resolutions without complaining ....

If you are asking to remux 'part' of it back into the original VOB, then I'm pretty certain the answer is no - this cannot be done. Different titles, yes, but the same title no.

    I hope this helps ...

I wanted to replace the whole D1 video stream with a half-D1 one, without reauthoring. Otherwise, I know there are plenty of reauthoring choices, as long as the video stream has a valid resolution; and I also know that I cannot replace just a cell, because the resolution must be the same along the entire titleset.

I thought it is possible to remux the M2V into the VOB, then update the resolution information in the IFO.

For example, I noticed that VTSI_MAT has a section "video attributes of VTSM_VOBS", which contains a "source resolution" field. You are right, I did try to edit that field, and IFOEdit told me "Item is not editable".

Is there a technical reason that makes the editing of the "source resolution" field (and possibly other resolution-related fields) impossible, or is it just not implemented in IFOEdit?

Hi - you can change resolution in the VTS_01_0.IFO faily easily (in the root structure) by just changing the title set resolution - save and go back in again. Then the resolution in the VTSI_MAT also changes (must have a pointer to the main resolution here I assume).

Not sure if this will work though as my tinkering with IFO's is limited to getting subtitles working ...

    Good luck ...

I'll try TeeeRex's advice, maybe this weekend, and I'll let you know if it worked - combined, of course, with the steps outlined in 2Cool's remuxing guide.

I believe that, by strictly following 2Cool's guide, without adjusting the resolution info, a non-standard titleset will be created. It might work in some DVD players, for the same reason why titlesets with SVCD resolution (and who knows what other non-standard stuff) work, but that's not a guarantee.

    Thanks for the tips, guys!

    Report: It Worked!

I changed the resolution info in the root structure of VTS_0n_0.IFO and VIDEO_TS.IFO easily, with IFOEdit, and I remuxed in the new M2V at the new resolution, by following 2Cool's guide.

    Two pieces of advice:
    - Make sure your new M2V has the same GOP structure as the original. Clicking on the "Rebuild PTS option" won't help - well it didn't help me. The resulting video stuttered badly.
    - If the VOB has subtitles, they will remain at their original resolution. My set top player (Panasonic DVD RV-32) played them just fine, but my version of CyberLink PowerDVD (4.0) showed them at double size, ugly and getting out of the screen. It's possible that a VOB in which the M2V and the subs have different resolutions, is out of spec (... but can anyone confirm this?) - so make sure it will play fine in your player, if the subs are important to you (if not, you can strip them out).

    Thanks again for your help.
