  1. I have used Pinnacle Studio 8 with AV/DV Breakout box to capture a VHS tape to the hard drive for DVD Conversion (it is possible to copy directly to DVD Mpeg, but my processor is not fast enough!).

I captured using Highest quality AVI, the properties of this are as follows:

    VIDEO
    Frame Size: 720x576
    Compression: PICVIDEO MJPEG Codec

    AUDIO
    Channel: Stereo 2 channel
    Sample Precision: 16 bit
    Compression: PCM (Uncompresed)

I am unable to load the avi into TMPEGEnc, both the Plus and DVD Source Creator versions! I am only using DVD SC as a trial at the mo and have about 20 days left.

I can open the file no problem in Dr. DivX, but really, it is a process I dont want to do every time I want to convert a VHS tape to DVD. I would rather capture to high quality avi then capture straight to DVD mpeg.

But having to use Dr DivX first, that adds another 6 hours or so to the process!

    Hope you guys can help.

Could you tell us what error TMPGEnc gives you when you try to load the file please?

Also, when I was capturing from VHS, I used the Morgan MJPEG Codec, so our source AVIs are much the same. I actually opened the .AVI produced up in VirtualDub and frameserved into TMPGEnc, and I suffered no problems. It is detailed in this guide:

    https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/160618.php

It should be easy enough to set TMPGEnc up for DVD instead of SVCD as covered in that guide - the author actually says this somewhere in there.

Give frameserving a shot and see if that works out for you if your error can't be resolved.

    Hope this helps,

    Cobra

  3. Thanks for the reply.

I actually dont get any erors, but when I load the file into either program, they start to judge the field order and both programs stop responding at about 7-8% into the judging field order progress bar.

I used DVD2SVCD in AVI2DVD mode and it loaded succesfully into TMPEGEnc Plus, however, it stated that it was going to take 26 hours to encode, and it was encoding for like 15 minutes and still on frame 0.

It was moving towards 27 hours when I decided to abort!
