  1. I want to use my Ti Powerbook to convert my VHS (Hollywood, not home movies) to DVD before the tapes degrade too much. I purchased the ADS USB Instant DVD for Mac a while ago, but when I tried to capture the video, I got an error which I believed to be due to copy protection (Macrovision, I'm assuming). Do I need to buy another piece of hardware to fix this, or should I just need the ADS device? I'm using a late-90s model VCR and the composite outputs. I also have at my disposal an older (late80s-early 90s) model VCR and a brand new VCR/DVD combo unit. Would either of these work? I feel really bad dropping down a couple hundred on the ADS unit and finding that it doesn't work. I'm pretty sure once I get the footage digitized I'll have no problem from there, but for the last year I've been stuck. Thanks a million for any help.

There is a Version 2.2 of PixeDV on your install CD the accepts Macrovision-encoded signals for NTSC encoding. It is buried in the Help folder. You'll find it.

Media shifting is covered under fair use, so this is not a warez issue.
I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime beaucoup les systèmes, le cas d'application excepté."

  5. There are macrovision filters available, check around though they can be pricey. My DVMC-DA2 has problems qith composite Macrovision, but is fine when I use my s-video cable. Not sure why.
