save you money and trouble by buying more expensive media. NEC burners are awfully picky about media. Verbatim media and media with Tayio Yuden daye are good.

Also, DVD+r seems better than dvd-r.

This one is a NEC forum.

Check the above sites for information on NEC 2550 drives.

  5. Here is a complete review of the 2500A. Scrool down to the bottom of the page for the actual review. You'll notice that it out performed even the significately higher priced models. It burned to even the cheapest brands with no problem. I use the Data Life DVD-R to get 8X performance. I found some for about 65 cents per disk.

  6. Download Herrie Beta 7. bit set to DVD-ROM. Get Memorex, TDK, or Fuji 4x + and it will burn at 8x. DVDr + set to DVD-ROM = Maximum compatibility. Some Prodisc 4x + (@8x) burns well too.

  7. Good purchase Bongo2, this writer is fantastic. I've tried various media, but I seriously like Memorex DVD-R made by CMC. You can burn them right to the edge all day long and every disc works. They are cheap too, I picked up 100 at Office Depot for $69 on sale.
I haven't had a problem with players refusing to play any either, but some players just won't play DVD-R's, so you may want to check out Herrie's firmware. I have not tried the bitsetting yet myself, but I've heard good things about it and bitsetting your discs to DVD-ROM will guarantee that any player, even the PS2, will play your DVDs.

if you want the MOST compatible disc....this is the way

just go on-line, at officedepot.com, or staples.com, or officemax...every week some good media is on sale, like 1disc/1$.....
i like office depot, you can get Maxells dvd+r for 1 buck each..but you have to be pacient.....

personally, I use Sony and Maxell, never had any problem, and at 1buck each...don't bother for something cheap, it's worth it...
